Mark DiGirolamo

Field Biologist

Mark first joined BRI as a seasonal field biologist in 2012-2013, working on a project in Waldo and Kennebec counties aimed at increasing Common Loon nesting success by installing nesting platforms and monitoring them through the nesting season. He again joined BRI as a seasonal field biologist in the spring of 2024, and is now a year-round employee.

In his current role, Mark assists with a variety of avian projects involving capture/banding, behavioral observations, offshore wind bird surveys, and more. In winter, he assists with data interpretation and reviews research papers on various topics.

Mark’s passion for birds, plants, and other wildlife began in his teens, when teachers piqued his interest and sparked his excitement about the natural world. His interests in nature expanded to traveling around North, Central, and South America in pursuit of his fascination with amazing birds and other wildlife. These interests eventually transgressed to a career in field biology that he continues to pursue at BRI with his fellow coworkers. His other passions include sea kayaking, wild mushroom foraging, cooking, traveling, live music, and more.
