Joan first came to New England in the summer of 1999 when she volunteered her computer skills at The Loon Preservation Committee (LPC) in New Hampshire. In 2001, Joan was hired by LPC through the AmeriCorps program to create a biological database that would house 25 years of research data. Through the AmeriCorps program she was able to learn MS Access, and as a result was able to provide LPC with a working database. She applied her new skills in the creation of a database for BRI’s research data for which she currently maintains and continues to design.

In addition to her database work, Joan is also responsible for reporting all bands and banded bird encounters to the Bird Banding Lab.
