Red-shafted Flickers by Ken Archer. Ken has contributed many images including songbirds and raptors.

A Picture IS Worth a Thousand Words

An important part of BRI’s mission is to share the knowledge our biologists gain from their scientific research. This website and all of our communications pieces help distill a great deal of technical information for those who need it. The images we present help tell the stories of all the wildlife we study. So many of these images are donated to us from world class photographers and artists who understand the power of a visual statement. We recognize those contributors here on this page and we thank them all for their part in conservation.

Journey With the Loon

Nature photographers Ginger and Daniel Poleschook have donated hundreds of images over the years since BRI’s inception. They specialize in photographing loons, but they have also shared images of eagles, shorebirds, seabirds, and many others. Their work is featured in BRI’s new publication Journey with the Loon.

Contributing Professional Photographers

Our scientific research inspires others who share their artistic crafts. We are grateful to these generous photographers who have donated their images to us:

Contributing Amateur Photographers

Many amateur and hobbyist photographers volunteer their time and images to us. These people photograph our banded birds, which helps us track their travels. This is an invaluable service to us. Others just love being out in nature and are happy to share their joy with us. We wish to thank:

Contributing Artists and Illustrators

Illustration also helps us tell a visual story of our research. We are fortunate to know talented artists who can translate our science into works of art. We wish to thank the artists below for donating their artistic skills to enhance our publications:

Contributing Scientists

Many of our collaborators who work in the field with us also share their photographic talents on a regular basis. They not only help us document our work, they provide valuable insight into the special nature of photographing “birds in hand.”

Contributing BRI Staff

When our biologists are in the field, they are intent on their science. But for some, photographing their work is a big part of the job. We are grateful to have so many talented employees who not only conduct high-quality scientific research, they also help tell our story through a visual medium.
