Lucas Savoy joined BRI in 2000 as a wildlife research biologist, focusing on Common Loon contaminant and breeding ecology across North America. He also developed an interest in waterfowl research and conservation.

As BRI’s deputy director and a member of the Leadership Team, Lucas helps guide organizational operations while supporting research across BRI’s Centers and Programs. With nearly 30 years of field research experience, he focuses on waterbird conservation in North America and internationally, including contaminant exposure and risk, migratory and seasonal movements, and wildlife studies supporting Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) compliance. He collaborates extensively with state and federal agencies, NGOs, Tribes, and academic partners. Lucas also serves on the University of Southern Maine’s Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and the Sea Duck Joint Venture Board.
