Advancing the Minamata Convention
The World Environment Situation Room (WESR) platform, hosted by UNEP, provides access to the most current environmental data to support decision-making at all levels.
As part of UNEP’s Global Mercury Partnership, BRI is a co-chair of the Mercury Air Transport & Fate Research partnership area.

BRI supports the development of regional mercury monitoring networks through lab training and capacity building.
BRI helped over 40 countries to build standardized, comprehensive mercury inventories—providing the critical baseline data required to execute effective Minamata Initial Assessments.
Advancing the Convention on Biological Diversity
The UN’s development of the Global Biodiversity Framework creates a distinct overlap between the Minamata Convention on Mercury and the Convention on Biological Diversity. BRI’s work investigating the impacts of mercury on biodiversity creates a platform for collaboration between the two Conventions.
